I received this text message in one of my pupils:
Maybe You Have Reached Your Score Goal?
This student ended up being extremely motivated and methodical. We spent about 1 1.5 hours per together, going over her tests week. She did most of the heavy-lifting on her very own.
1 set up a Starting Point: She started the method with a complete large amount of test anxiety, which makes her score gain all of the more remarkable. She not only had the standard challenges everyone else has, but she additionally had to deal with the anxiety issue. Anxiety is terrible for A sat score.
The objective for the SAT was to survive december!
2 learn Aids: She took a brief hiatus after the December SAT, then began the Critical Reading Intensive by late December.
In January, she learned math, utilizing The New Math SAT Game Plan, and took a sections that are few associated with the College Board’s Blue Book.
3 Practice SATs: By early February, she was ready to start taking full, timed training SATs. We made a schedule — one SAT that is full weekend.
4 Test Analysis: After she took each practice test, she’d spend one day searching up every solitary vocabulary word she don’t know, including those from the reading passages. She studied those words every day, until test day.
5 Charting Errors: After looking up the vocab, she’d chart all of her errors, giving careful consideration to why she made the error, and coming up with new approaches for the practice test that is next. Throughout the between practice tests, she’d spend about one hour per day, studying her errors week. For instance, if she made an ‘idiomatic expression’ error on the writing area, she would spend an hour studying all idiomatic expressions.
6 methods that are different Each week, she tried out different ‘methods’ of answering questions on her practice SATs. As an example, one week she tried the passage based reading questions without reading the passage first (it did not work), another week she attempted not guessing/leaving the question blank if she wasn’t sure of the answer (it worked), and another week she tried not making any questions blank.
Various methods benefit each person. One pupil scored an 800 on the reading area by perhaps not reading the passages before responding to the questions. That did not work with this student. Some students are good guessers and some are not.
An element of the test prep process is to rapidly figure out which strategy works best for which student.
7 Practice Scores vs. Real Scores: Her practice scores fluctuated by about 50 points per part, from week to week. In the end, her May SAT mathematics and scores that are reading in the reduced end of her range, and her writing score came in right at the center.
